One of the biggest misconceptions is that your home improvement project should wait until the spring. Many homeowners feel that spring and early summer is the perfect time to improve your home due to the warmer weather. However, coming from a home improvement company, it really isn’t and there are quite a few reasons why.
Waiting May Cost You More
It’s a well-known fact that when demand is high, the cost of materials increases. During the spring manufacturers increase their prices in order to get more return during the busier months as a cushion for the slower times of year.
Have you ever found the perfect fixture or appliance online, just to learn that it’s out of stock? During this time of year, it is a lot less common to run into those situations as those items don’t move off of the shelves as quickly as in the winter months. Starting your home improvements now gives you the opportunity to shop around and find the products that you are really looking for.
The second reason is that most everyone wants their projects completed around this time. For contractors, spring and summer are the busiest time of year. Being that customers are taken on a first come-first serve basis, I’m sure you can imagine this can get pretty tricky.
As the seasons progress and become really busy we begin to pick up a higher wait time before starting the project as, all reputable contractors do. In fact, if a contractor mentions that they can start the project next week or even the week after, you should strongly reconsider your choice.

Food is a big part of our work environment here at True North Remodeling. Why, you ask? Because it fuels us every day to go out and be the best at what we do. Not to mention, it’s a means for all of us to come together and spend some quality time learning about one another. From our weekly Friday outings to the local pit beef spot up the road, to grilling out right here in the office, we spend a lot of time eating and socializing together.
Being that Anthony was a dual athlete in college and Bruce played in the major leagues, a lot of the conversations we have all somehow lead to sports. This year we are so excited to have an office where friendly competition and office camaraderie has become a regular thing. We have all types of different fans in the office which makes for a really interesting but fun dynamic.
With the Super Bowl coming up this weekend, we want to give you a little taste of True North culture by sharing a couple of our favorite football recipes. That make for a perfect way to watch the game!
Football Deviled Eggs
Step 1- Place eggs into sauce pan and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil; cover, remove from heat and let stand 15 minutes.
Step 2- Drain and rapidly cool eggs by running them under cold water (or place in ice water) until completely cooled. Tap each egg firmly on the counter until cracks peel over the shell. Peel under running water.
Step 3- Once eggs are peeled, cut them in half and place yolks into a bowl. Reserve the whites in a serving tray.
Step 4- Mix the mayonnaise, dried mustard, lemon juice, salt and pepper into the yolks. Spoon about 1 tablespoon into each egg white half.
Step 5- Add thinly sliced green onion to resemble the stitching on a football. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
Next to the table are these awesome baked ham and cheese sliders which are super tasty and easy to make! There are several versions of this recipe online but we seem to keep going back to this one. Perhaps because of the King’s Hawaiian rolls! Don’t be surprised if these are the first of many snacks to leave your table.
Ham & Cheese Sliders
Step 1- Begin by cutting the buns or rolls in half. Place the bottoms of the buns into a 9×13-inch pan. Then top with a folded piece of deli ham.
Step 2- Layer with cheese and repeat. Add bun lids on top.
Step 3- Melt butter and whisk together with mustard, dried onion, poppy seeds, and Worcestershire. Brush or spoon this mixture on the tops of the rolls.
Step 4- Preheat oven to 350 degrees and bake rolls until lightly browned and cheese has melted, about 20 minutes.
Step 5- Take out and slice through the ham and cheese layers to serve.
As for True North Remodeling team, its game day every day. We hope you enjoy these recipes and that they fuel you up for a Sunday full of fun! Enjoy the company of friends and family this weekend. Stay safe everyone!
Today we’re giving you the inside scoop on insulation- not just the pink stuff you insulate your home with, but more so the materials that you use when upgrading your home’s energy efficiency. Insulation in your home provides resistance to heat flow and increases your energy savings. Properly insulating your home not only reduces heating and cooling costs, but also improves overall comfort.
First, let’s discuss how insulation works. Heat flow is a big factor when insulating your home, which involves three simple mechanisms: Conduction, Convection, and Radiation. Conduction is the movement of something such as heat or electricity through a medium, for instance using a metal rod to roast marshmallows on an open fire and feeling the heat rise through the rod from the fire to your hand. Convection is the way heat circulates through fluids and is why warmer air rises and cooler air sinks in your home. Whereas radiant heat travels directly to any area transferring energy any solids in its path, the warmth of sunshine being the most commonly used example.
The most common insulation materials work by decelerating conductive and convective heat flow. It is the nature of heat is to flow from warmer to cooler until there is no longer a temperature difference. In your home, this means that heat is moving adjacent to unheated garages, attics, and basements or even just straight to the outdoors. During summer it’s just the opposite to where heat flows from the outdoors directly to the interior of your home.
In building and construction, R-value is extremely important. It’s a measure of how well a two-dimensional barrier, such as a layer of insulation, a window or a complete wall or ceiling, resists the conductive flow of heat. R-values measure the thermal resistance per unit of a barrier’s exposed area. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating effectiveness.
At True North Remodeling all of our products surpass builder grade materials in that the R-value is significantly higher making your home that much more comfortable no matter the season. Whether you choose to go with Mezzo windows or Prodigy vinyl insulated siding, you’ll be sure to feel a difference in your home as well as pockets. If you’re noticing draftiness or severe temperature changes in your home give us a call at (443) 302-9864 to schedule your free in home estimate!
